Weekly Update: Spending Review
This week was an expensive one! I spent some money on getting my deposit together for Social Work school starting this fall and then spent some other money on an Empire Building Kit from Chris Guillebeau of $100 Start-Up fame (and frankly, many other things). I’ve only started this program but I’m learning a lot already – I’ll be posting more about thoughts about this as I go along.
I also spent some of my riches at the freshly opened Fiscal Flamingo, I bought one of Taynia’s financial programs (package 3). I haven’t had a chance to delve into this one quite yet but I’m excited to get started based on what I’ve seen so far! Click here to visit The Fiscal Flamingo and let me know what you think! As I work my way through the program, I’ll keep you posted on how I do with it.
This weeks’ food and entertainment budget was a little higher because I had a friend in from out of town. I took her out for dinner one night and I spent the rest of the weekend pretty close to home.
Work, gas, and food were also higher because I took the patients on a day trip to the mountains. The hundred and some dollars from mileage and expenses will be reimbursed in a few weeks so no loss there.
I think I got a little excited with buying the Empire-Building Kit and Fiscal Flamingo program – I should have been putting some of that money towards an emergency fund and debt. But I guess not everything can’t be about debt and emergency funds – however we found out today that my husband’s car needs new tires to the tune of $700.
You know what would have been handy right now? A freakin’ emergency fund. I read a blog post about a couple that got started by putting 99 cents a week into a separate bank account for an emergency fund. I think I need to do that – no amount is too small.
Weekly Update: Life Under Construction

God, this week is a write-off. I’m going through some stressful stuff right now and it’s all I can do to keep myself from falling back into all patterns. I lost my shit a little bit and dropped about $60 on books that hasn’t shown up in my account yet (Paypal takes awhile to debit back to my account).
It’s been raining non-stop and it’s been hard to go for walks or go hiking in some of my favourite spots lately. I’m left with a bunch of pent-up – and neurotic – energy and not a lot of places to park it lately. In between not trying to spend money (fail); not going through drive-thrus (also fail); and not be a stress-case, I am a having a hard time hanging onto the last few manners my momma taught me.
F word. Any suggestions, readers?
Yay. Thanks for the mention. I’m on week three of Empire Building. I’m on week 3 – doing the one email a day method. Im really digging it so far. Looking forward to hearing your progress and thoughts on both programs.
Hey Taynia!
Yeah, I’ve enjoyed the first week of Empire Building. I was introduced to Chris Guillebeau after reading his book $100 Start-Up – I liked what I saw so I took the leap. So far, so good!
