I could sing about it but think my way is easier.
Do you remember those 25 question get-to-know-me deals you’d find on Facebook or in an email? People would fill them out and forward them on to their friends. I remembered reading one a blogger posted quite a few months ago and thought it was a fun way to share weird and random facts about myself. So here goes:
1. Do you have brothers or sisters?
I have one younger brother. When we were young, I used to dress my brother like a girl and push around in a carriage. I had to stop this practice when he grew to be 6’6 and 300 lbs. He just stopped having a sense of humour about stuff like that. Weird.
2. Where is your birthplace and are you far from it now?
My brother and I were both born in Vancouver, B.C. (Canada). When I was in grade nine, we moved from Vancouver to a small town in Southern Alberta. It had one traffic light and no transit system. I found that last one out when I sat on a street bench for an hour, expecting some sort of bus. 😉 I’m about a twelve hour drive from Vancouver now.
3. What is your motto? I don’t know if it’s my motto but I loved Julius Caesar’s Veni, Vidi, Vici (Latin for “I came, I saw, I conquered.”). That is some seriously Chuck Norris-level, crazy shit. I could totally see Caesar slow-walking into the camera with a huge mother-fucking explosion going off over his shoulder after saying something like that. Way too cool.
4. What are your hobbies? In truth, most of my hobbies involve activities that avoid direct eye contact and meaningful conversation. I work in social services and so I’m usually pretty burnt out after eight hours of therapeutic-bonding. Most of the time, I like reading, writing, movies, and good restaurants.
5. What is your favourite ice cream flavour? My current favourite is Yogen Früz Blackberry Avalanche frozen yogurt. Best shit around. Does that count?
6. What two things could you not do when you were a child, but you can do now? I couldn’t snap my fingers or wolf whistle. I had to practice for hours to master finger-snapping…I’m not sure what that says about me. I still can’t wolf whistle.
7. If you could travel anywhere in the world – where would you go and why? Pretty much anywhere that Indiana Jones was filmed. I grew up with those movies and fell in love with travelling…minus the rolling boulders or pits of snakes.
8. Have you ever met a famous person? I got an autograph from Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) when I was in grade eight. One of the most kick-ass heroes in television history. Ever.
9. What is your least favourite thing about yourself? I’m too moody.
10. One word that describes you? Still moody.
11. If you were a crayon, what colour would you be & why? Big Dip O’ Ruby. It’s got a fun name and you can’t miss it.
12. What is the weather like right now where you are? Sunny and cold. Minus six degrees Celsius last time I checked. Canadian winters are crappy, as a general rule.
13. How tall are you? I’m 5’10. Both my brother and I take after my father’s side of the family. All our relatives on that side our freakishly tall.
14. When you were little – what did you want to do “when you grew up?” Are you doing it? I wanted to be a super hero. Unfortunately, I don’t have any secret mutant powers and I’m too fat to fly.
15. How do you spend your free time? These days? Mostly I blog.
16. Favourite sport you like to watch or participate in? I joined a dragonboating team one summer and really liked doing that. It was my first experience with a team sport, it was pretty cool.
17. What kind of food do you prefer eating when you are out? I seem to like chicken. I get that a lot in various forms.
18. Last movie you watched? Ride Along. It was pretty funny. Kevin Hart’s goofyguy to Ice Cube’s straight man.
19. Would you like to be famous? No, I’d hate it. Being famous involves talking to too many people.
20. What book are you reading? Queen of Sorcery. It’s part of a sword and sorcery series, called The Belgariad, that I read about 42 times as a kid. It’s still good.
21. If you had $5 million to spend in 5 days, but with the clause you could not spend any of it on yourself or your family, what would you do with it? You’re probably expecting me to name sort of charity – I could but then I’d be lying. Truthfully, I’d find some stranger and make a deal to give him a million dollars for taking the money and giving me back the rest. I’d be sensible and ensure there was a legal agreement so he doesn’t run away with it – that would be bad. Once I took care of myself and my people, I’d be more than happy to spread around the goodness. I guess I’m selfish that way.
22. If you knew that you could try any kind of work/employment and that you would not fail, what would you attempt doing? Writing a book, I think.
23. If you could change something about yourself, what it be and why? My moodiness. It would be really great to consistently feel one thing for longer than an hour. Getting through a day can be challenging when you constantly have to manage your shit from moment to moment.
24. What’s the farthest you’ve been from home? Paris, France. My best friend and I took a romantic trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It was a little weird and awkward with all the kissy couples standing around. (Actually it was great, but the romance angle is funnier.)
25. Toilet paper. Roll with paper coming off the top or bottom? Why? I like the toilet paper to roll from the top. Why? Because I like to see what’s coming at me.
What are some fun facts about you?
